It's a complete and utter mess
2:08 AM
Anyway this guy is one of those lolcows who rotates through communities looking to ruin them for fun. If anyone remembers "I Love Eerie" he was the same way
2:08 AM
But it's an example of why having an "approved" list is important
2:08 AM
So that people don't equate this mess with, say, Kiah's guide

Hmm I think democratic voting might work
Avatar
I tend to be more concerned with the side effects of approving guides than I am with the benefits of approving guides
2:10 AM
People will be following stupid guides for sure, but that's on them. It's up to the individual to have a brain and to take responsibility for the things they read and think about.
2:10 AM
That said, everyone who comments on those guides pointing out issues is doing a service as well
Avatar
Deleted User 6/27/2019 2:11 AM
Thats why people should read multiple guides and not just treat one as the sacred tulpa text lol
Avatar
But someone still joined my Discord the other day talking about how they were following it
2:11 AM
Even with all those comments destroying it
Avatar
It's up to individual responsibility
Avatar
It's also up to individual responsibility to accept criticism when their guides are under review, no?
2:12 AM
Jests aside, having an approved list is vital for newcomers
2:12 AM
Because they have nothing to tell them something is wrong other than an apparent person of authority
Avatar
To a degree, yes, I think that is true . However, there's a difference between dealing with the comment of a random and dealing with the comment of someone who is within the structure of the website you are dissipating in
2:14 AM
That's the problem with authoritarian structures, they are brittle and rely on untrustworthy groups or small groups of people
2:14 AM
With the undertone being that any human group isn't necessarily trustworthy in the long run
2:14 AM
I think the people on the guide approval team are fine (although they are human) (edited)
Avatar
I think some of the people on the GAT are fine
2:14 AM
I think some aren't
Avatar
Another reason not to trust authoritarian structures
Avatar
And I think the most recent addition definitely is not, indicating that those remaining are not applying very high standards to new applicants
Avatar
Even if you're fine with it today, you might not be fine with it tomorrow
Avatar
As it stands right now, there are maybe three people on the GAT who I'd trust to not only have the knowledge and experience required to do a good job, but also the willingness and ability to evaluate guides fairly and reject that which is unsatisfactory.

If you would like to keep us in check Kopase, then do what you're already doing- leave a review of your own in the comments. I'm sure the OP will appreciate your feedback as long as you stay as professional as you claim to be.
Avatar
Ugh, your complaints are really starting to rub me the wrong way when I otherwise want to appreciate your contributions. Here's the facts: The GAT has for the last few years at least been made 90% out of active forum members who have contributed in many discussions and Q&A's on the forum. Should we get people from the Discord too? Yeah, and I did just recommend that with the recent need for more members. The other 10% have been people that we (well, someone on the Staff/GAT at least) knows has been around for a long time and will contribute well. They always have, from what I've seen. But at this point I'm not sure your qualifications are seen as worth the potential vitriol and instability you're constantly displaying. We'd prefer members who don't leave 3 weeks later because they disagreed with someone else, and that's exactly who you strike me as, personally. But I still appreciate your contributions. (edited)
3:35 AM
You and everyone else are and always have been allowed to, with no special title or authority, voice your concerns, criticisms and otherwise opinions on any submission or guide whenever you want.
3:35 AM
I've been doing it without problem for like five years now
Avatar
Deleted User 6/30/2019 3:36 AM
I agree, like I said, I don't think complaining about other members of the position you desire won't help you get that position
Avatar
If you actually want to help, nothing is stopping you. I promise you the average OP can't distinguish between GAT and friendly neighborhood volunteer and will take your concerns evenly.
3:37 AM
(There's been an exception here or there, people who were very stalwart in getting their submission approved have rudely said they only want GAT yays or nays - but that's really been like twice in the last several years at most)
3:39 AM
Plus, the GAT (which I've never been a part of) have always taken my own opinions into account when I offered them and discussed from there. So there's absolutely no semblance of an idea that Tulpa.info is limiting who can help approve and moderate submissions. That's entirely self-imposed.
3:40 AM
Anyways.. we DO need more members since we've already got pretty much every well-qualified willing active member of the forum on the GAT, so I'd appreciate if some of you on Discord who are willing to keep up with the (pretty slow tbh) Submissions board would apply
3:40 AM
If anything all of your criticisms of Tulpa.info boil down to the Staff and active community being very used to forum-based stuff while you and others are only active on the Discord
3:41 AM
so meet us half way and say "Hey, maybe get the Discord community involved in "forum affairs""!
3:41 AM
... and maybe consider participating on the forum, too, that'd be nice.
3:42 AM
Most previously-discussed topics are honestly old enough now they could be remade for discussion with the current community, no problem, so anyone can make new discussion threads. (edited)

Similar with me. I never post anything really because all I have to say or ask has already been said or asked
5:41 AM
The only thing I could have posted was progress reports but I
5:41 AM
am terrible at keeping them
5:42 AM
Maybe I could mentor someone one day
5:44 AM
Guides try be somehow useful to anyone who reads them, whereas mentors personalize their teachings to the student
5:46 AM
Mhm, making them readable and stuff

If anyone on the GAT was sticking around because they felt bad about the open spots but otherwise would've preferred to leave, you could trade places with Dee
11:40 PM
I know at least one of you was going to step down but didn't, which is part of why I'm saying that
11:41 PM
But also I'd like to see someone experienced (and frankly over-qualified) like Dee who's shown interest get a chance to be on the GAT rather than turned away, basically
Avatar
You could always just add another spot if you really wanted to
Avatar
Right, I think we're used to having seven but maybe that's not a problem?
11:43 PM
I know it sounds nice to have a "minimum 5/7 votes" or whatever but I honestly don't see such a contentious submission scenario coming up
11:43 PM
that ""risking"" a 4/8 would be a problem
Avatar
All you have to do is say four out of eight is a pass
Avatar
Or fail
11:44 PM
As long as it is agreed on beforehand
Avatar
I think the minimum should probably be, in practicality, 6/8
11:44 PM
5/8 sounds better on paper but in an actual scenario with several GAT members dis -approving a guide (edited)
11:45 PM
there's probably something going on
11:45 PM
5/8 minimum though, of course
11:45 PM
50% is a failing grade
Avatar
I agree that it is good to have a higher barrier of entry there, what's the system now?
11:45 PM
Tentatively, the approval of a guide will be based either on a 5/7 approval vote, or a minimum of 4 approvals if not all 7 GAT members participate.
Avatar
Sounds like it wouldn't be too big of a deal to have at five of eight
Avatar
I wouldn't mind seeing more people on the GAT.
Avatar
Or even six of eight
11:46 PM
The more the merrier!
Avatar
Considering there's ruling on approving guides if not everyone participates, I think more is better
11:46 PM
yeah

are you waiting for more applications to make a decision or you rejected all the current ones? Curious as to when the gat resumes its work.

Breloomancer 7/11/2019 1:37 PM
You are currently the only person who is applying, but there another person who is sort of applying, but we aren't 100% sure, so we want to make sure if they are actually applying and see their mock review before going forward on adding the 7th member

huh. I thought there were like half a dozen posts

A lot of which were editted to say "User withdrew application"

Time to rewrite Piratoforte again.

I'm aware I'm on the GAT, but I wanted to ask in a big ol' public space for whoever else might be around :3 So... I get all my reviews, now what? My current plan is: 1) Read them all through again and take note of the things that need revising. 2) Post a list of all the things I plan to revise (and hopefully get replies saying if I missed anything or if it sounds like a good plan (?)) as well as thanking my reviewers 3) Revise accordingly 4) (confusion sets in) Do I have to resubmit my guide in any formal way? Do I just alert the GAT that I've made my revisions? And for my own reference, will I be replying again, or is it okay to just edit my previous review post and say "You've fixed it now, congrats, I'm approving you"? And... I assume we just replace the version that's in the thread now with the revised version, yes? But, when it's approved... will it be in another thread, or something? It doesn't... quite look good, if a guide is followed by people commenting about things that no longer exist in the revised guide.

You could either have the old guide scrapped, or update the OP and then post "I've made my revisions" so everyone knows. If it's someone else's guide, just make a new post if they've updated it.
Avatar
You should probably keep a draft of the original
Avatar
If you want to make a new thread, we can move the old one to lounge or something (edited)

Don't need two guides about the same topic by the same author in the guides forum
Avatar
I still have to finish my review
Avatar
you just have to tell us that you have made the changes, then we approve it and normally we use the same thread as was used for reviews to be put in the guides section, but if you want to use a different thread I don't see a reason why that can't work too

You should probably keep a draft of the originalI already have a draft of the original, so if you want to make changes now go ahead. However, I recommend that you wait for Yuka's and Bre's review first. Draft: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LCQWZJq_syRCA5lnKt09urGMY2h2nt28axq0LHF4Xk4/edit?usp=sharing (edited)
